In a manual car Town driving can be quite fraut, the busier conditions mean many more gear changes.

I recently counted 68 gear changes on a short 3.5 mile trip I made from home into Manchester city centre. That would equal 136 gear changes on a round trip. Every one of the gear changes is extra work and pressure that need not be there, every single gear change is a potential distraction and I for one do not want to be distracted whilst I'm driving.
